A CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF THE LEGAL FRAMEWORKS AGAINST CHILD LABOUR IN NIGERIA

Abstract

This research critically analyses the underlying causes and factors contributing to the prevalence of child labour and under aged children for working purposes in various regions and industries. And possible solutions with laws to put an end to child labour. This research uses the doctrinal method in explaining the issues of child labour and under aged It examines poverty, economic factors, limited access to education, cultural and social norms, weak legislative frameworks, demand for cheap labour, conflict and displacement, gender inequality, lack of awareness, and globalization as key factors influencing the persistence of child labour. The Findings of this Research consistently demonstrates that eliminating child labour has broader positive implications for sustainable development, poverty reduction, and social progress. Findings underscore the importance of prioritizing investments in education, social protection, and sustainable livelihoods to break the cycle of child labour. This research recommends that social protection measures should be established and expand social protection programs to support vulnerable families and ensure they have access to basic needs, healthcare, and financial assistance. Targeted interventions, such as conditional cash transfers or livelihood support, can alleviate economic pressures that often drive child labour. This research concludes that child labour and the employment of underage workers is a complex and concerning issue that has far-reaching implications for individuals, societies, and global development.
