A SURVEY OF ICT FACILITIES ON TEACHING AND LEARNING PROCESS IN JUNIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL
Abstract
ABSTRACT The study investigated on ICT facilities on teaching and learning process in junior secondary school in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo state. Four Research questions and their corresponding hypothesis were raised to guide the study. The study adopted a descriptive research design. The population of the study consisted of 1,523 respondents which was made of 1,243 students and 280 teachers in public junior secondary school in Oredo Local Government Area with a sample of 152 respondents which were randomly selected from the total population. The instrument used for the study was a structured questionnaire. The questionnaire was validated by three experts and then administered on 30 respondents to test for its reliability. The Cronbach alpha statistics was used in determining the reliability of the instrument and the value obtained was 0.821 which implied that the instrument was reliable. The Mean, Standard Deviation and t-test were used for the analysis of the data obtained. �The findings of the study showed that there was high level of availability and utilization of ICT facilities in teaching and learning process in junior secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area. However, there was low level of functionality and adequacy of ICT facilities in teaching and learning process in junior secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area. Based on the finding of the study it was recommended that Governments, the owner of public secondary schools should fund education adequately thereby making ICT facilities more adequate and functional for effective utilization. Also, teachers should learn to adopt the use of ICT facilities to support traditional teaching and learning method instead of wholly depending on traditional method in this 21st century.
