Abstract

This research work is an examination on the issue of divorce and it�s negative effects on children in Nigeria. This work also discussed extensively the positive and the negative sides of divorce on the children of the marriage. It has been discovered in the world today, the phenomenon of divorce is receiving increasing attention as a stress inducing factor or a life crisis which affects over two million adults and one million children worldwide annually. Mirrors observation from the Nigerian society indicates that divorce appears to be in the increase and its becoming increasingly stressful on the parts of the divorcees, on their children and the society. This project work also exposes the problems in marriages, the causes and reasons for divorce, effects of divorce in Nigeria, and how it affects the children in the marriage. It analyzes the consequences on both parties to the marriage and the society. With the aid of domestic statutes, case laws, maxims, hermeneutics, judicial considerations etc. There is an increasing interest in ways of controlling and minimizing the disruptive experiences of the divorcing adults as a result of awareness of the extent of the impact of divorce on the individuals and society. The work will also discussed extensively the positive and the negative sides of divorce on the children of the marriage. This study will be based mostly on Nigerian cases also aimed at highlighting the issues and factors connected with divorce as well as possible solutions for prevention or possible reduction or eradication.
