Abstract

This research examines the legal and institutional mechanisms against corruption in Nigeria. For the fight against corruption in Nigeria to be effective, government urgently needs to review current legal and institutional mechanisms established to combat corruption in Nigeria. The research reviews other authors� materials on legal and institutional mechanisms against corruption in Nigeria. The research examines the historical background of corruption, the definitions of corruptions, the faces of corruption, causes and effects of corruption in Nigeria. The research further examines enacted legal laws for curtailing corruption in Nigeria, and the various institutions set up for combating corruption in Nigeria. The research gives recommendation on the way forward for an efficient and effective fight against corruption in Nigeria. The research conclude by opining that the laws and institutions set up to tackle corruption in Nigeria needs to be review, overhaul, some laws be repeal and institutions clashing on functions, duties and powers be merged together to enable them function effectively.
