Abstract

The antibiotic resistant and susceptible bacteria associated with bus door handles in central park Benin�city, Edo state� was investigated.�A total of�40samples were collected �from bus�door handles in�central park�using moist�sterile swab stick�on�Biu, Sapele route, Airport route, Sakponba route and Evhotubu routes�BIU�route had�the highest bacterial count which ranged from 2�cfu/cm 2 �to�200�cfu/cm 2 while�Sapele�route�had the least bacteria count which ranged from I fu/cm 2 to 190�cfu/cm 2 . The bacteria isolate were Staphylococcus aureus ,� Salmonella sp, Escherichia Coli, Pseudomonas�aeruginosa,� Micrococcus�sp, Enterococcus�and�Bacillus�sp . Antibiotics susceptibility pattern of the isolates determined by disc diffusion methods revealed that all the�Dacterial�isolates were�senisitive�to�Augmentin. Most of the bacterial isolates were resistant to Ciprofoxacin, �Gentamycin, �Nitrofurantum,� Cefuroxime,�Ofloxacin,�Cefixime�and�Ceftazie. The results of this study revealed the presence of potentially pathogenic bacteria on the door handles of commercial vehicles.
