A CRITIQUE OF THE NIGERIAN TRADEMARK LAWS: A CALL FOR REFORMATION
Abstract
The Nigerian Trademark law is enacted to protect manufacturers goods and protect consumers from buying counterfeiting goods. This research works is a critique on the present Nigerian Trademark Laws and the need for a reformation of the laws. This work discusses the nature of the Nigerian Trade Mark laws, stating the lapses in the Act. It furthers on the failure of the Act to include Service marks and Cybersquatting. This work finds that the Nigerian Trademark Act needs to be reformed to fit the standard of other developed countries. It also discusses the problems of the enforcement of this Act as well as other Intellectual Property laws. In all, this work recommends a review of the Act in other to match the standard of devloping countries and to adequately protect manufacturers of goods and services.
