INFLUENCE OF SOCIAL MEDIA ON YOUTH IN BENIN CITY DURING 2020 ENDSAR PROTEST

Abstract

ABSTRACT �The study investigated influence of social media on youth in benin city during �2020 Endsars protest. Four objectives and research questions guided the study. The study adopted an survey research design. The population� comprises 1,086,882 youths in three local government area of Edo State. The sample size for the study was 378 . Findings revealed that� social media were used to mobilize people towards participation in the #EndSARS protest. Also the level of youth understanding content of the agitation on social media in Edo State was high and also the #EndSARS protest was a well-organized protest. Based on the findings, the researcher recommended that there should be a way of educating and enlightening people on certain ethics of social media and consequence of violating them and also social media should be encouraged in all institution.
