A LEGAL EXAMINATION OF THE HEALTH IMPLICATION OF ENVIRONMENTAL DEGRADATION: NIGER DELTA AS A CASE STUDY.
Abstract
This research work legally examined the health implications of the environmental degradation in the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria. It posited that environmental degradation has been the bane of the Nigeria�s Niger Delta Region and this is not just evident in Nigeria alone but in other parts of the world, the health implications of these environmental degrading activities are enormous. This research work looked into the importance of a healthy environment and how a healthy environment affects the health of the Niger Deltans. It went on to examine the views and opinions of various authors and writers with regards to environmental degradations, the effect on the health of individuals and also how the Government have failed to provide sufficient laws to protect the environment and human health and how obsolete laws are still in use instead of been reviewed. This work went on to examine the causes of environmental degradation, the challenges the Niger Deltans faced due to environmental degradations. It further examined the existing legislations in Nigeria that seeks to protect the environment and human health, the effect they have in protecting the health of the populace. It finally proffered recommendations and suggestions on how a better environment and good health can be achieved through proper legislations that protect the environment. These are what the research work seeks to achieve.
