AN EXAMINATION OF THE IMPACT OF UNREGULATED CATTLE GRAZING ON NATIONAL FOOD SECURITY.

Abstract

This research examines the impact of unregulated cattle grazing on national food security in the context of Nigeria. This research also examined the reviews of writers who have different perspective on what food insecurity and unregulated grazing meant to them. The research identified those terms of grave importance and gave an explanation of what they entailed. It also discussed the positive and negative aspects of those terms, in other words, its advantages and disadvantages. The research analyzed other jurisdictions� mode of grazing and how they were able to prevent unregulated practice of grazing. This research examined the existing laws that regulates cattle grazing. It also examined the laws in other jurisdiction based on grazing reserves, notwithstanding the implementation of those laws and its challenges. The research recommends that, the Nigerian government must act in accordance with making sure that the interest of everyone, both herders and farmers, are kept in mind in dealing with this conflict. The laws enacted are not enough to just make the herders flee the states or country. The country also needs meat and milk, which are part of our essential meals, so the government should work on its dispute resolution strategy to make this conflict and clash end. The research concludes that the conflict will not stop until the herders� interests are also included in the laws and such laws are amended for peace on both side.
