BACTERIA ISOLATED FROM COMMMERICAL VEHICLE DOOR HANDLE FROM CENTRAL PARK, BENIN CITY,EDO STATE
Abstract
� Contact with contaminated door handles can be a source of infection transmission. The goal of this study is to isolate and identify bacteria associated with door handles of commercial vehicle from central park, in Benin City,Edo State was investigated. A total of 50 commercial vehicle door handles from central park along Erhunmwunse, Wire road, Siluko, Akpakpva and Ekenwa routes� were sampled using sterile moist swab stick. Enumeration of bacterial population using pour plate method revealed that� Akpakpva route� had the highest bacterial count( 23 cfu/cm 2 to 300 cfu/cm 2 )and Siluko route� had the lowest bacterial counts� ( 8 cfu/cm 2 �to 180 cfu/cm 2 ). Wire road route had the highest coliform counts (50 cfu/cm 2 to 200 cfu/cm 2 ) while Erhunmwunse route� had the lowest coliform counts (1cfu/cm 2 to 30 cfu/cm 2 ). Akpakpva route had the highest Salmonella count ( 15 cfu/cm 2 to 200cfu/cm 2 ) while Siluko route had the lowest coliform count ( 0 cfu/cm 2 to 15 cfu/cm 2 ). The bacteria isolated were� identified to be�� Staphylococcus aureus , Salmonella spp, Escherichia coli , Enterococcus feacalis �Bacillus sp and Micrococcs sp.
