ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES IN THE NYSC ORIENTATION CAMP

Abstract

This study examines the economic activities that take place within the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp, using Nonwa-Gbam Tai Orientation Camp in Rivers State as a case study. The research focuses on the period between 2020 and 2023 and explores the various economic activities that corps members engage in during their stay in the camp. These activities include entrepreneurship, skills acquisition, and financial transactions. The study adopts a historical research method. Data were collected from both primary and secondary sources including interviews and group discussions, books, journals, conference paper, reports, and internet materials/website. Findings reveal that the NYSC orientation camp provides opportunities for corps members to engage in economic activities that enhance their financial stability and entrepreneurship skills. The study recommends that the NYSC management and government agencies provide support for corps members to develop their entrepreneurial skills and access financial resources to enhance their economic activities.
