Abstract

This study investigated the utilization of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the administration of public senior secondary schools in Benin Metropolis. In order to achieve this objective, four research questions were answered while four hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. The design for the study was a descriptive survey. The population of the study comprised forty-four (44) public secondary schools in Benin Metropolis made up of three local governments (Oredo, Ikpoba-Okha and Egor) with forty-four (44) principals. Due to the small size of the population, all the 44 principals from public senior secondary schools in Benin Metropolis were used as sample for the study. The research instrument used was a structured questionnaire. The data collected were analyzed using the descriptive statistics of the Mean and Standard Deviation while the hypotheses were tested using the independent t-test statistical procedure. The findings showed that the level of ICT services in the schools was not significant on the administration of public senior secondary schools in Benin Metropolis. It was also shown that the level of competency of the users of ICT in schools was not significant on the administration of public senior secondary schools in Benin Metropolis. The study also pointed out that the level of utilization of ICT in admission process was not significant on the administration of public senior secondary schools in Benin Metropolis. However, the study revealed that the level of utilization of ICT in record management was significant on the administration of public senior secondary schools in Benin Metropolis. The study recommends that principals should be sent on in-service training on utilization of ICT in schools, in order to raise the level of ICT services available in public senior secondary schools in Benin Metropolis. Also, that principal should utilize application of ICT for admission processes in order to enhance secondary school administrative effectiveness.
