Abstract
The study investigated public opinion on the adoption of Pigin English language as a means of communication in Kpoko FM. The objectives of the study are to determine if there is public awareness of the use of pidgin usage in Kpoko FM, Warri, to know how frequently the use of Nigerian pidgin in English communication is used, to find out the most popular programmes aired, and to ascertain the extent of influence of pidgin English programmes on citizens. The study adopted the survey method. A questionnaire was distributed to the respondents, after which copies were retrieved for analysis. The theoretical framework used in the study was the agenda-setting theory. The random sampling technique was used and the sample size was 350. The findings of the study revealed that Pidgin English is a prominent feature of Kpoko FM's broadcasts, with a substantial portion of content believed to be delivered in this language. Findings highlight the critical role of Pidgin English in Kpoko FM's broadcasting strategy and its impact on listener engagement, suggesting that the language is an essential component of the station's appeal and effectiveness in reaching its audience. The study therefore recommends that while Pidgin English is crucial for engagement, it is important to strike a balance between Pidgin English and Standard English in broadcasts.
