EXAMINING THE CHALLENGES IN IMPLEMENTATION OF THE UNITED NATIONS SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS ON INTERNALLY DISPLACED PERSONS IN NIGERIA

This research examines the domestic legislations that are available to assist and guide in the attainment of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals established by the United Nations. This research adopts the use of doctrinal research methodology and finds that the implementation of the SDGs presents significant challenges for displaced persons in Nigeria thus impeding the successful realization of the SDGs. Furthermore, this research finds that the sustainable development goals of the United Nations is a strategic plan that will help displaced persons in Nigeria attain sustainability, equity and prosperity. This research identifies critical gaps and therefore recommends actionable strategies that Nigeria should enact an effective and specific federal legislature; strengthen its enforcement mechanisms; organize extensive orientations on Sustainable Development Goals and its advantages; create systems to enhance the effective integration of the SDGs into policies and programs aimed at improving the living conditions of IDPs in Nigeria, and lastly create partnerships that can help to attain the goals and inclusive approach to address the unique needs of this vulnerable population, ensuring no one is left behind in the pursuit of global sustainability. The research concludes that achieving Sustainable Development in Nigeria is feasible if the recommendations herein are effected.
