Major Activities of the Directorate of Research and Innovation

The Director of Research and Innovation coordinates the research activities in the University. Constant efforts are being made to address the demand-driven issues in all possible areas, addressing local and national issues with global challenges. Presently, some research projects are in operation in the different Faculties.

  1.  Leading research and innovation accountability and performance by overseeing planning, development and implementation of initiatives aligned with the university’s strategic policy
  2. Overseeing operational supports for research and innovation activities, ensuring compliance with internal and external requirements, and recommending necessary adjustments to internal operating environment where required to maintain compliance.
  3. Stewarding the growth of research activity at Benson Idahosa University through supporting existing and developing areas of research and innovation focus in response to local, National and International priorities and opportunities
  4. Ensuring research and innovation at Benson Idahosa University is well positioned to take advantage of new opportunities to strengthen impact, including through new funding avenues
  5. Contribute to strengthening alignment between academic and research activities in support to student learning and research experiences.
 

Mandate of the Center

Research Centre Director is responsible for providing research leadership, which normally includes:

  1.  Promoting and facilitating leading-edge research, including collaborative and interdisciplinary research, in areas related to the goals of the university;
  2. Building, and providing sufficient support for, a community of innovative researchers to enhance research capacity at the university and to increase internal and external research opportunities for faculty, post-doctoral fellows, and graduate students;  
  3. Developing networks between the research centre and researchers in the field in the public and private sectors, locally, nationally and internationally;
  4. Acting as the nexus between the university and the community with respect to research initiatives of mutual benefit; where applicable, developing mutually beneficial linkages with industry in order to develop partnerships and collaborative research;
  5.  Transferring knowledge to society through outreach (e.g. collaborative research; seminars; workshops; lectures; websites; publications) and, where applicable, through technology transfer (e.g. collaborative research; contract work; and commercialization of intellectual property);
  6.  Developing strong linkages with appropriate academic departments and units and adding value to the Benson Idahosa University academic ecosystem
