Benson Idahosa University (BIU) has recorded an outstanding achievement as the students of the Department of Nursing Science passed the March 2025 Post Basic Midwifery Professional Examination. The remarkable performance underscores the institution’s commitment to excellence in healthcare education and training.

The Post Basic Midwifery Professional Examination is a critical requirement for becoming a registered midwife in Nigeria. Passing the exam allows graduates to practice legally, providing essential care to women and newborns while upholding professional healthcare standards.

The university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. John A. Okhuoya, praised the students and the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, for their dedication. “This achievement reflects the hard work of our students and the quality of training provided by our seasoned lecturers,” he said. “We are proud to contribute skilled midwives to the healthcare sector, addressing maternal and child health needs in Nigeria.”

Dr. (Mrs.) Josephine Ngozi Oko-Ose, Ag. Head of the Nursing Department, attributed the success to rigorous academic preparation, hands-on clinical training, and continuous mentorship. “Our curriculum is designed to meet global standards, ensuring our graduates are competent and confident professionals,” she stated.

One of the successful candidates, Miss Onome Benita Ekrakene, while excited, also expressed gratitude to the university for its support. “I am truly excited and grateful to God, the nursing department, the university and my parents…I commend the professional development, evidence-based teachings and up-to-date methods of practices…,” she said.

With this achievement, Benson Idahosa University reinforces its reputation as a leading institution for nursing and midwifery education in Nigeria. The university remains committed to producing highly skilled healthcare professionals to strengthen the nation’s medical workforce.
