HOD'S WELCOME MESSAGE

The philosophy of the Nursing degree is hinged on the beliefs that Man is a bio-psycho-social being and his needs are the focus of all nursing activities in the efforts towards achieving a high level of wellness. It also derives from the vision and mission statement of the Benson Idahosa University and takes cognizance of the philosophy of higher education in Nigeria. The Department of Nursing Science functions within the Faculty of Basic Medical and Health Sciences, with the support of the Faculty of Science to provide and raise Nursing professionals with academic excellence combined with godliness that will go into the community to make a difference in the provision of nursing care services.The Department of Nursing Science believes that the graduate should have the greatest concern for services through high standards of scholarship, and that the preparation for professional nursing should consist of interdisciplinary and specialist professional training in the university (anchored on Christian principles) leading to the bachelor’s degree.

  • To uphold the academic standards stipulated by the National Universities Commission and the Nursing Council of Nigeria in line with the vision and mission of Benson Idahosa University.
  • To offer liberal or general and professional education to be able to utilize psychosocial and physical factors in health promotion health maintenance and of health restoration.
  • To prepare the undergraduate nursing student to think effectively, to communicate thought and to discriminate among values.
  • The Programme aims to produce Polyvalent Nurses Practitioner, capable of performing nursing skills in a variety of social settings, therapeutically assisting individual, family and community with diverse background and health problems to attain optimal health.
  • The Programme prepare nurse- practitioners who are capable of relating the role of health services to the brother social system and who will be engaged in life-long and self-directed learning.
  • To undertake research aimed at improving the quality of health care.
  • To organize continuing education programmes for its members and for other nurses outside the University.
