HEAD OF DEPARTMENT

I am delighted to welcome all students of the Department of Economics, Banking and Finance, both new and returning to Benson Idahosa University.

Nigeria is in a transition stage; therefore, as students of Economics and Banking and Finance, we must be prepared to deal with a host of economic and financial problems facing the nation at this point in time.

This university was founded by Arch Bishop Benson Idahosa with a view to promoting Academic Excellence with Godliness, which is captured in the vision of the university, which is to raise leaders, academics and entrepreneurs who are complete in spirit, mind and body.

While knowledge can be pursued for its own sake, we in the Department of Economic, Banking and Finance, must do more as a force to promote economic growth both nationally and globally. We must work relentlessly to identify contemporary problems and address them with intellect and cutting-edge principles.

Our key services are teaching, research, community development and character building. We perform these functions by judiciously utilising current information and communication technology, networking with similar institutions worldwide, putting people first in our operations and emphasising Christian ethical values.

Students are therefore urged to take advantage of the seasoned professors and other senior lecturers who provide state-of-the-art teaching in economics and related subjects, as well as research opportunities that abound in the Department.

All staff of the Department are available at all times to listen to students and help them with their difficulties, especially Course Advisers are also on hand to help students plan their academic programmes.

On this note, I welcome all of you again and solicit your cooperation in order to make life easy for everybody.

ECONOMICS

FOUR-YEAR B.SC. PROGRAMME

  1. S. C. E., G. C. E., N. E. C. O., or its equivalent, with credit passes in at least five subjects, which should include English Language, Mathematics and Economics (obtained in not more than two sittings). There are no waivers for credit passes in the English language and Mathematics.
  2. The required joint matriculation Examination subjects are:
    1. English Language
    2. Mathematics
    3. Economics, plus any other relevant subject. and
  1. Any other requirement the University may deem fit.

 

THREE-YEAR B.SC. PROGRAMME

Requirements are as in A(1) above, plus:

  1. Two or more subjects in the General Certificate of Education (GCE) at the Advanced level or Higher School Certificate (HSC), one of which must be Economics.
  2. National Certificate of Education (NCE) with distinction credits/merits in relevant subjects.
  3. National Diploma (ND) from any recognised Polytechnic or Colleges of technology with a grade not lower than upper credits

 

BANKING AND FINANCE

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

FOUR-YEAR B.SC. PROGRAMME

  1. A Senior Secondary Certificate or General Certificate of Education or their equivalent with at least five credit passes, which should include English Language, Economics, and mathematics; this must be obtained in not more than two sittings.
  2. Also, Candidates must have acceptable passes in the University Matriculation examination (UME), in the following subjects: Use of English, Mathematics, Economics, plus any other subject.

THREE-YEAR B.SC. PROGRAMME

  1. GCE A/L in Economics and any other subject, in addition to the university Matriculation Examination (UME) requirement, or
  2. A Diploma Certificate in Banking and Finance at least a merit obtained from Benson Idahosa University or any other recognised Institute of Higher  Learning acceptable to the Senate of Benson Idahosa University, in addition to the UME admission requirements:
